Hawks officials say a man found transporting R1.8 million worth of drugs to Durban is a 58-year-old KZN resident.
Nadaragen Chetty was nabbed after the crime-fighting unit received a tip-off about a suspect transporting drugs from Johannesburg to Durban.
Hawks spokesperson Simphiwe Mhlongo says teams were stationed at the Mariannhill Toll Plaza this week.
"Members spotted the said vehicle and it was intercepted. A search was then conducted and ten packs of heroin powder with the street value of approximately R1.8 million were found concealed in the dashboard.
“Chetty was subsequently arrested and charged for dealing in drugs. He appeared in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court yesterday, 15 September 2021 and was remanded in custody. His case was postponed to 22 September 2021 for bail application.”
