Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
A northern KwaZulu-Natal man has been slapped with two life sentences for the rape and murder of his nine-year-old stepdaughter.
Bongani Dlamini pleaded guilty to luring the girl to an abandoned homestead in Nongoma four months ago and attacking her.
He appeared in the Pietermaritzburg High Court on Thursday.
He strangled the child and dumped her body in a pit toilet.
Her remains were recovered a week later.

KZN National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson, Natasha Kara says the man said in a plea statement that he had killed the child to stop her from telling her mother what he'd done to her.
"The director of public prosecutions in KZN welcomes both the conviction and sentencing in this matter as the accused has no justifiable reason such an offence. The fact that the accused pleaded guilty does not diminish his actions."
