KZN lagging behind in issuing of taxi operating licences
Updated | By OFM News
KwaZulu-Natal has been fingered as the province with the highest number of unprocessed taxi operating licence applications in the country.
KZN is currently sitting with a backlog of 2 859 applications for taxi operating licences that are yet to be finalised.
This was revealed by Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula during a written parliamentary response.
He's also revealed that KZN was followed second by the Northern Cape as the province with the second highest number of unprocessed applications with a backlog of 2 698.
The reasons for the backlog has been identified as the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the processing of applications as well as the current pace of the national land transport information system, which has been described as unreliable.
The department anticipates by the end of March the backlog will be cleared.
