KZN Health alarmed over spike in Covid-19

KZN Health has raised the alarm after the province recorded
over 1700 new Covid-19 cases in a single day this weekend.
New infections in KZN peaked at 1 742 recorded on Saturday, with 80% of them in eThekwini.
The department says Covid-19 hospitalisations are also increasing, 437 people currently admitted.
It says 47 are in ICU and nine on ventilators.
Spokesperson Mdu Ncalane says the statistics are very worrying.

"After a steady climb over the past week, it is the first time in months that the number of new infections threatens to reach the 2000 mark. The latest figures have pushed the 7-day average from 414 to 1171."
Simelane is pleading with communities to continue with wearing of face masks, social distancing, sanitizing and other pharmacuticual interventions to prevent contracting Covid-19.
In the last 24 hours, 3 838 new cases were recorded in the country, with 29% of them in KZN. There were no deaths reported.
