Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga

They say the place they used to call home isn't safe.
About a hundred families were forced to flee their properties when heavy storms, landslides and flooding struck last week.

Many of them escaped with nothing but the clothes on their backs.
Resident Siyabulela Helu says the Umlazi River, which runs through the settlement, swells during heavy downpours.
He says they've been moved to the Wema Hostel Community Hall and Tehuis Hostel.
"We plead with government to please get us a place where we can move to - in the near future."

"We cannot return to the Mega Village settlement - where our homes keep getting swept away - by waters when there are heavy rains.
"We survived two different flood incidents in the past years. I don't think we will make it should it happen again."
