The DA in KZN says it welcomes the commitment by Premier Sihle Zikalala to build more than 4000 temporary residential units from next week to accommodate families displaced by the floods.
A total of 435 died in the floods, while thousands of families have been left destitute.
They are being accommodated in halls, churches and schools.
KZN DA chairperson Francois Rodgers is calling for transparency.
"The province of KwaZulu-Natal has a tardy record when with comes to accountability and corruption.
"The premier gave us his word that everything done during this difficult time when it comes to disaster management and expenditure that it would be transparent and be made public and we call on the premier to ensure that that, in fact, does happen."

Meanwhile, some services at the Rossburgh Licence Testing Centre are being moved to Pinetown after being damaged by recent floods.
KZN Transport MEC Neliswa Peggy Nkonyeni visited the centre to assess the damage.
She says the licensing section is important as the country is still chasing a backlog after Covid-19.
"We are appealing to over people not to come over here to Rossburgh DLTC because nothing is happening.
"We will continue issuing driver's licence cards from this particular station, but we are not going to be proving other services that are normally provided here."
