WATCH: KZN emergency services salute fallen heroes with motorcade
Updated | By Nothando Mkhize
Emergency services have been paying tribute to their colleagues who have died in a helicopter crash.
A Netcare 911 chopper with an intensive care rapid transfer team on board crashed near Bergville a week ago.
They had been on their way to pick up a critically ill patient in Hillcrest and transfer them to Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg.
First responders in KZN have come together this afternoon to honour their fallen colleagues.
A motorcade travelled from Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium to Umhlanga Hospital.

Duane Bengston of Net Tow was part of the convoy, "It was a good show of medics, ambulances, security, tow trucks so it was quite a nice show of respect for them."
"It's a big thing for all the emergency services to show respect for them by coming together. Not only for situations like this but even through this pandemic," he says.
He says their tragedy had left a mark on the emergency service industry.

"When we hear something like this happened, it was very sad for us because they play a critical role in saving people's lives and for us being on the accident scene we generally the first to arrive and work closely with the paramedics."
