KZN education budget not enough to address issues - SADTU
Updated | By Celumusa Zulu
Teachers Union SADTU says the R66 billion allocated to KZN
education does not speak to the challenges faced by teachers.

SADTU KZN's Nomarashiya Caluza says despite the department getting the biggest chunk of the budget, it will not improve the state of schools in the province.
"That budget is not different from the budget of the previous financial year. It’s not going to assist because it does not touch it on critical issues that are already affecting our schools.
"The non-appointment of teachers, the filling of vacancies especially office based, and the support staff remains a critical problem that is affecting schools. The budget does not speak true to those."

She also made a call to the premier's office to intervene.
"He has to intervene if they are committed to quality teaching and learning [and] issues of safety.
“Teachers are being shot, there’s bulling, violence, and crime in our schools. It is because we do not have proper security, they have to come to terms with that reality and address these issues."
