KZN cop accused of killing pregnant partner appears in court

The police officer accused of murdering his heavily pregnant girlfriend will remain in custody.

Sergeant Mbuyiseni Gema, who is based at Ixopo, is said to have gone to see 35-year-old Busisiwe Ngubo last week Sunday.
The woman was found dead the following day.
Her body was discovered just over a kilometre from her home in Ehlanzeni, west of Umkomaas. It's also said she had communicated with her family that she planned to meet with him.

Her body was discovered the next day - last week Monday - after she was last seen with the officer at the Ehlanzeni area where she resided. It's also emerged that she was pregnant with triplets.
Following his arrest, the 48-year-old officer was arrested and made his appearance before the Ixopo Magistrates Court on Monday.
"The man appeared today at the Ixopo Magistrate's Court," says NPA KZN spokesperson Natasha Kara
"He faces one count of murder. The matter was remanded to 25 August for a formal bail application. The State is opposed to bail."
