KZN beaches: Netting, swells and sardines
Updated | By Noxolo Miya
Sardine and fish activity aren't the only reasons beachgoers are being advised to stay out of the water along Durban's southern coastline.

"The swell along the southern coast of KZN has also been moving very strongly, as we have reported previously, rip currents are always a danger," says Lifesaving South Africa's Dhaya Sedwuth.
eThekwini introduced a ban on swimming this week in anticipation of the annual phenomenon known as the sardine run.
Shark nets have been lifted, and already massive shoals, coming through from the Eastern Cape, have been netted between Port Edward and Scottburgh.

Sedwuth says bathing isn't allowed at beaches at Toti, Brighton, Anstey, uMgababa and Doonside.
"Bathers are advised that while there is heightened activity with netting and fishing and other activites in the ocean, they should refrain to swim as they place themselves at great risk."
