KwaMaphumulo pupils taken to hospital after eating lollipops

A probe is underway after pupils at a primary school in KwaMaphumulo were rushed to hospital after eating lollipops.

Officials say the children fell ill on Monday.
KZN education spokesperson Muzi Mahlambi says around 80 learners were seen by doctors
"They ate lollipops that caused them to vomit and some complained of stomach cramps and they were rushed to hospital. They were treated and discharged.

"Apparently, this is a lollipop that they bought from aunties that are selling at the schools. We are working with the Department of Health to look into this matter."
Mahlambi says they were discharged after around two hours.
