Kings Park Pool upgrade to be completed next year
Updated | By Lauren Hendricks
The R42 million upgrade of Durban's Kings Park Pool is
expected to be completed in a year.

The 100-year-old facility has been closed for revamping since November 2024.
Zakhi Mkhize, the project lead at eThekwini Municipality, says the work is being done in two phases.
The first phase of emergency repairs started in May after strong winds damaged some of the infrastructure and is set to wrap up by the end of this month.
" And then phase two is starting now, it is going to be finishing in June, which means it's a year’s progress. So that's one, it will also include an upgrade facelift and deal with the softer issues in terms of the architectural aesthetic pleasing environment within the pool. There are compliance issues that also need to be addressed, in terms of your projection, your last level."

Mkhize says the pool is a major asset for the city.
" So, this facility is one of a kind, across this facility, there is Moses Mabhida, and there's an athletics stadium, and there's golf. So, the entire precinct is the precinct for the sport tourism, and we called it the sport precinct because that's where it's happening."
She says once the refurbishment is done, they will try to adhere to the maintenance plan to avoid further costs.
