Child rights groups: Kids need to be heard
Updated | By Nothando Mkhize
Rights' groups are encouraging parents and caregivers to create opportunities for their children to talk about issues openly and without fear as we mark Child Protection Week.
The government is calling on the country to 'Protect children during COVID-19 and beyond'.
Bobbi Bear's Jackie Branfield is urging parents to make time for their children.
"Every day should be Child Protection Day. I believe if we take this lesson of the pandemic and start listening to children, that's one thing we as parents don't do enough of, is actually listening to our children and recognise that they have opinions."

Sonke Gender Justice's Wessel van den Berg says: "Everything that happens behind close doors is even further removed from visibility. If there was a risk of violence against children before, it would have been amplified during the lockdown.
"We have to just make sure that parents and caregivers are aware of how to prevent violence against children through their own behaviours and monitoring the behaviour of other adults around them."
