Kidnapped newborn baby found unharmed - two arrested

Two young women including a teenager have been arrested for allegedly kidnapping a newborn.

According to police the two befriended a 23-year-old mother who'd been discharged from a hospital in Umzimkhulu after giving birth to a baby boy.
The suspects allegedly pretended to have been visiting a relative in the maternity ward and offered to leave together with the new mother to the city centre.
Police say once in the CBD - the two women offered to hold the child while the mother went to the bathroom.

She came out to find they'd vanished with the four-day-old infant.
The investigation led police to Mfulamahle where they found the 17 and 20-year-old suspect and the baby. It's believed they'd planned to take the child to Gauteng where one of their boyfriends lives.
The pair appeared in court yesterday and the teen suspect was released into the custody of her parents.
