It will replace the low-level crossing with a new 90-meter bridge spanning the river.

Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda has assessed the progress of the construction.

"The decision we have taken is to apply other engineering tactics so that when we build it is better and smarter. So, if we build today, and in the next ten years, when there are floods, we will experience similar challenges.

"The bridge was a one-way traffic bridge, and this bridge will be a two-way traffic bridge, but on top of that, the level of the ground they will be covering will then mitigate, especially in the challenges that the city has been experiencing floods."
