IPID gets boost to bump up staff
Updated | By Celumusa Zulu
Police watchdog IPID says it plans to boost its staff numbers to tackle a growing backlog of cases.

The Directorate is struggling with a shortage of investigators, leaving nearly 15,000 cases of alleged police misconduct unresolved.
Most of these matters are concentrated in hotspot provinces, including KZN and Gauteng.

Speaking in Parliament on Wednesday, Executive Director Dikeledi Ntlatseng said IPID will use the budget increase it has received to address the issues.
" The department has received an additional budget allocation of R126.3 million over the next three years. The number of personnel will increase from 387 in 2025/26 to 421 in 2027/28."
