Inmates, correctional officials to get Covid jab from Tuesday

Prisoners and Correctional Service officers will be able to receive their Covid-19 vaccination from Tuesday.
Correctional Services Minister Ronald Lamola will officially launch the vaccinations rollout programme at the Johannesburg Management area on Tuesday morning.
The majority of the officials started receiving their jabs last week at the 90 approved vaccination sites at Correctional Centres across the country.

The department's spokesperson Chrispin Phiri says the vaccination rollout will help ensure the protection of the prison population in case of an outbreak.
"Thus fat 10 percent of our inmates have been vaccinated that is particularly the inmates who are in the 50 to 69 age group.
"Thus far more than 100 000 vaccines secured for correctional services and, particularly the J&J vaccine will be used Correctional Services. This will really go a long way.”
