India celebrates Republic Day
Updated | By ECR Newswatch
India has celebrated Republic Day today, a 66-year-old tradition.
About 10 000 spectators attended the event that celebrates the adoption of India's Constitution in 1950 after gaining independence from Britain in 1947.
The parade featured 56 camels from the Border Security Force - used to patrol the border with Pakistan, female motorcyclists performing stunts and a march by French soldiers alongside India's troop.
France's Francois Hollande was also in attendance at the envent in New Delhi.
A nationwide security crackdown was launched in the country in the lead-up to the celebrations. Some 50 000 law enforcement officers were deployed across the capital.
