iLembe mulls future of Siza Water deal
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
The iLembe District Municipality says no decision has been made yet on whether to renew Siza Water’s contract.

The utility currently supplies areas including Ballito, Shaka’s Head, Shakaskraal, Tinley Manor, Shayamoya, and Etete.
Its current 30-year agreement is set to expire in April 2029. It was signed in 1999 by the former Dolphin Coast Municipality.
Municipal Manager Sazi Mbele told reporters on Wednesday, that the focus now is on delivering water services to the entire district, which spans four local municipalities.

"We must do an assessment of ourselves in terms of the service provision, in terms of the act where we say, this is the capacity we have, these are the assets, these are the skills, and the council must decide what is the best model of providing the service," said Mbhele.
"The question is far bigger than the service provider. It's about how the council wants to provide water.
"So, that study will have to be done in terms of the law, and what council will receive will be a thorough assessment of the state of the municipality."
