IFP says it warned of school nutrition ‘red flags’
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
The IFP in KZN says it spotted relationship red flags between the current service provider and schools on the R2 billion nutrition programme days before last month's problems began.
The party says it questioned the awarding of 70% of the tender amount to the company, which it claims was appointed irregularly.
Other service providers shared 30% of the contract while providing logistical support.
The party held a media briefing on Monday to explain its concerns about the scheme, which provides meals to children in over 5 400 schools.

It wants the contract with the current service provider terminated immediately.
The IFP's Thembeni Madlopha-Mthethwa says they were given the runaround when they asked questions in the legislature.
"We asked everything because we were told that there is now a company that is going to be bulk-buying. When I asked 'How did you arrive at the bulk-buying, who is this person that did now advertise and was fortunate to get the tender?' They said, 'No, we are going to take you through’."
