Updated | By Steve Bhengu
The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has revealed the code of conduct by which political parties have to abide ahead of the local government elections.
The commission facilitated a pledge ceremony in Johannesburg on Friday.
IEC chairperson Glen Mashinini outlined the commitments as per the code.
"To canvass support for a party or a candidate, to hold public meetings, to lawfully erect banners, billboards, placards and posters.
As well as every party and every candidate must liaise with other parties and candidates and endeavour to ensure that they do not call public meetings, marches, demonstrations or any political events at the same time."
He also shared what conduct is not allowed.
"Using language which provokes violence, intimidation of candidates or voters, offering any inducement or reward to person to vote for a party, destroying, removing or defacing posters of other parties, carrying arms or weapons at political meetings, marches or rallies."
