IEC details preparations for Nquthu by-elections
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
The IEC says it has taken into account all measures to ensure today's by-election in Nquthu runs smoothly, is fair and successful.

Nquthu is the only municipality in the country that has not been able to elect office-bearers since last year's Local Government Elections.
Contention among councillors has resulted in violence - with several sittings failing to find solutions.

The IEC's Mawethu Mosery says they understand how desperate the political parties are to get the municipality under their control.
"Firstly, we worked with political parties to ensure they have party agents that are well-informed of the process and have an understanding of the process such that they can observe the process throughout the day. We have gone to the extent of those training party agents. As electoral officials, we've recruited people who are experienced," he said.
