IEC and ICASA 'yet to receive DA ad complaint'
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
Both the IEC and ICASA say they have yet to receive a formal complaint from the family of former president Nelson Mandela about the DA using the icon's voice in their election advert.
In the advert, Mandela's voice is heard calling for peace, justice and work for all. Last week, Mandela's grandson, Mandla, lashed out at the DA saying the advert is a gross violation of the electoral code, calling for it to be withdrawn.
But the DA says Madiba is a national and global icon who fought for the rights of all. The IEC's Kate Bapela confirms no such complaint has been brought to them.
"When it comes to elections broadcasting it is ICASA who deal with such. So we normally deal with it as and when it is presented to the IEC," she said.
ICASA's Paseka Maleka says the regulatory body has not heard from anyone.
"So far ICASA has not received any complaint from the Mandela family regarding the advert. However, as soon as we receive the complaint we will immediately look into it and make sure we address the issue in terms of our processes," he said.
