Hlophe says his mission is to decolonise SA law
Updated | By Mamelisa Ngcongo
Former Western Cape High Court Judge President John Hlophe says South Africa's law needs to be Africanised.

He made the statement during an address at the weekend's launch of the African Legal Professionals Association in Durban.
Hlophe said his mission is to decolonise the law.
"After all, law is about regulating human behaviour. What is needed when I say the law must be Africanised; the law must be a reflection of the aspirations, the beliefs, the value systems of the majority of the country."
Earlier this year, Hlophe became one of the first two members of the judiciary to be impeached.

Three years ago, the Judicial Conduct Tribunal found him guilty of trying to influence two Constitutional Court justices to rule a certain way in a corruption matter involving former president Jacob Zuma.
In a surprise move last week, Zuma's MK party confirmed that Hlophe would be the party’s leader in Parliament, where it's expected to assume the official opposition role.
Hlophe is expected to be among the 58 MK party MPs who will be sworn in on Tuesday.
