Updated | By Lauren Beukes
The COVID-19 Social Relief of Distress Grant for unemployed people is now open for applications.

The South African Social Security Agency CEO - Totsie Memela says they're ready to receive applications for the R350 grant which will be running for the next six months.
She stresses that the application can only be accessed on digital platforms - including their WhatsApp line.
Memela says unemployed people who are interested in applying for the grant need to meet certain criteria.
"The key people that will be able to apply will be those that are above 18. It has to be people who are unemployed - those who are not receiving any income and not receiving any grant," says Memela.
Applicants will need to provide their ID number, banking and contact details.
Memela says - it was previously stated that proof of residence is required for an application. This has now changed as applicants will only need to provide an address.
The WhatsApp number to access applications is 082 0468 553. You can also send an email to [email protected].
