Heavy rain in KZN leaves at least two dead
Updated | By Newswatch
The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Cooperative Governance has
confirmed that heavy rains that lashed parts of the province have claimed at
least two lives.

"On Thursday, two incidents took place; a 54-year-old woman died in Pinetown after being swept away while crossing a bridge.
"In Vikimithi, Umlalazi Local Municipality, Ward 6, a lightning strike resulted in the death of a 10-year-old girl and injuries to four other family members, who are receiving hospital treatment, said Cogta spokesperson Senzelwe Mzila.
Earlier this week, the SA Weather Service issued an Orange level 6 alert for disruptive rainfall in the province for Thursday and Friday.
The storms left banks collapsed, rivers overflowing and a trail of road disasters.
A yellow level 4 warning for disruptive rainfall is in place along the KZN coast on Saturday, except for the extreme north.

In eThekwini, several areas were impacted, with areas including Kloof, KwaMashu and oThongathi experiencing power outages.
Mzila says they will be assisting affected communities.
“Mop up operations, including in eThekwini, are under way to address the impact of fallen trees, damaged power lines and flooded roads.
"Disaster Management teams will continue monitoring areas prone to weather-related incidents.”
