Heavy police presence outside ANC KwaDukuza offices

There's a heavy police contingent outside the KwaDukuza ANC regional office in KwaDukuza, after a protest by ANC supporters turned violent.

The protest - which started last Wednesday - is over claims the ANC leadership wants to reinstated murder convicted former regional secretary - Musa Zondi.

The party has denied this. It's forced the nearby municipal to shut its doors after workers were intimidated at the start of the demonstration last week.

The police's Nqobile Gwala says hundreds of protesters showed up today.

"About 1500 people embarked in a protest action at KwaDukuza and stormed the offices on the R102 and set alight a vehicle. They also threw stones at the police officers but no injuries were reported," Gwala said.

Gwala says two suspects, aged 26 and 35, were arrested for public violence.
