Healthcare facilities must ensure generators are operational amid load shedding - Denosa
Updated | By Xolani Khumalo
The Democratic Nursing Organisation of South Africa (Denosa) has appealed to management at all healthcare facilities to make sure backup generators are well-serviced and fully operational.
The country has been experiencing intensified load shedding this week due to Eskom's loss of generation capacity.
The rolling blackouts moved from Stage 4 to 3 on Thursday night.
Denosa's general-secretary Cassim Lekhoathi says the consequences of power cuts could be severe for ICUs and theatres.
"Our healthcare workers in particular nurses, must not be compromised and also they don't suffer the brunt of being accused of negligence.
"We want to believe also that the municipalities should priorities healthcare facilities in terms of not switching off or being affected by the load shedding."
