"Nationally, just to give you in absolute numbers, we only need to reach another 513 000 in the 60 plus age group for us to reach the 70 percent. So when you break this into provinces, we only need to find another 40 000 over 60s." Minister Phaahla said.

At a briefing on Friday morning, Phaahla said overall, over 19 million doses had been administered so far.

Over 9.6 million adults are fully vaccinated.

South Africa's inoculation campaign has been boosted by the Vooma Vaccination Weekend drive, which was launched a week ago.

Phaahla has encouraged people to go out and get their jabs on the weekend.

"Over 2 100 sites were opened on Friday of the Vooma, 1 400 on Saturday and 500 sites opened on Sunday.

"The increased weekend opening gave an opportunity for those who are busy during the week at work and now they had an opportunity to visit our vaccination site. More Vooma weekends will be announced in the future"

The Health Department also officially launched the digital vaccination certificate for people who are fully vaccinated.
