Hawks to appeal ruling on Booysen suspension

The Hawks say they will appeal yesterday's ruling to set aside the suspension of their KZN head Johan Booysen.

A spokesperson says they're looking at the details of the judgement which found recently appointed Hawks head, Berning Ntlemeza had ignored key evidence in a bid to suspend him.

Booysen had been suspended in September with Ntlemeza claiming he had engineered a financial reward for himself and officers in his command for the killing of two suspects.

Durban High Court judge, Anton van Zyl said Ntlemeza had embarked on a course of action against Booysen that was unsustainable on the information at his disposal.

SAPS was ordered to pay the cost of the application.

The Hawks said in a statement yesterday that Booysen is not expected to report for duty while the process of appealing the judgement is in progress.

Booysen has successfully challenged several attempts to run him out of office.
