Gumtree baby seller to be sentenced next month
Updated | By Khatija Nxedlana
The National Prosecuting Authority says sentencing proceedings in the case against a woman arrested for trying to sell her baby on Gumtree for R5000 have been postponed.
"The matter appeared in the Pietermaritzburg Regional Court today and it was postponed to April 20 for sentencing proceedings," the NPA's Natasha Ramkisson-Kara said.
The young mother made a brief appearance in the Pietermaritzburg Regional Court today. She was arrested when an undercover policeman pretended to want to buy her 19-month-old son.
According to police, the young mother claims she could not look after the child alone as the boy's father was not paying maintenance.
