Green light for Comair flights to return to the skies
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
British Airways and Kulula are both able to take to the skies again.
The South African Civil Aviation Authority's reinstated Comair's certificate and lifted a suspension imposed on the air operator.
Flights were grounded indefinitely on Sunday, after Comair failed to prove that its safety and risk systems are effective. Aviation officials carried out an investigation at the company last week, following a series of mid air emergencies including engine and landing malfunctions.
The SA Civil Aviation Authority lifted the precautionary suspension of Comair's licence after a thorough review of the documentation it submitted.
SACAA has said in a statement that audits, following a spate of incidents that posed safety risks by kulula.com and British Airways airlines, were also concluded.
It says its inspectors focused on regulatory compliance, Comair's safety management systems and quality control management system.
Meanwhile, Kulula.com has tweeted that it welcomes the lifting of the suspension - adding that it will resume operations from Thursday morning.
It says customers with existing reservations will be contacted.
Those who plan to fly in the next two days must wait for confirmation of their bookings before making their way to the airport.
