Govt to install 96 bridges over three years

Public Works and Infrastructure Minister Sihle Zikalala says 96 bridges will be going up in six provinces, including KwaZulu-Natal, over the next three years.
Zikalala says it’s part of the Welisizwe Project.
He says each year of the construction project will be allocated R1.1 billion.

They're roping in the Transport Department and the South African National Defence Force to help complete it.
"We are covering rural areas where you have got a backlog in terms of bridges and where the situation is severe and people, whenever it is raining, cannot be able to cross from one area to another.
"This situation deprives learners of the opportunity when it rains to go to school and the community to access services that they need. So we are expediting, we are pushing, and the coordination is tight."
