Girl, 9 removed from home after rape
Updated | By ECR Newswatch
The KZN Social Development Department says they were made aware of the incident this week - while conducting household visits in the area.
The department's Ncumisa Fandesi says a social worker opened a case of rape at the Empangeni Police Station - which was then transferred to the Melmoth Police Station.
"The social worker responded and took the child to a doctor who confirmed that the child had been sexually molested", she said.
"The MEC feels there should be action as soon as possible in terms of arrests so that the child can feel safe again" Fandesi said.
"There is no place a child should feel safer than her own home", she said.
