Democratic Alliance (DA) leader, Mmusi Maimane, has called for the removal of Finance Minister, Malusi Gigaba, from national treasury.

Maimane led a march to the national treasury as part of the campaign against state capture.

He says Gigaba reports to the Gupta family.

"The ANC under the leadership of the Guptas have a way to capture institutions. Minister Gigupta was deployed here for the sole purpose of capturing treasury. All the Gupta-leaked emails have confirmed this. Gigaba must go along with the ANC," says Maimane.

Maimane says taxpayer’s money cannot be used on the Guptas.

"Let the people’s money be used for the people and not for one family. When we sing the national Anthem, we say in South Africa our land. Not South Africa Gupta land, not ANC land. We are here to fight that those who are left out will be included in the economy. Those who are government will do the job for the people," he says.

Tshwane Mayor, Solly Msimanga, says the DA does not hate the Gupta family.

"We don’t hate the Guptas, we love South Africa and its people more. We leave the country to look for investors. We tell them about our potential. We have factories we want to use to employ young people and the people of Tshwane. Investors refuse because they don’t know the direction treasury and government is taking," says Msimanga.

National Treasury was not immediately available for comment.
