Get to know SA's new deputy president, David Mabuza

David Mabuza will be sworn in as President Cyril Ramaphosa's right hand man today.

The president announced David Mabuza as South Africa's deputy president last night.
Mabuza, who served as Mpumalanga's Premier since 2009, was elected Deputy President of the ANC on 18 December 2017.
The service of deputy president elect in the Mpumalanga provincial government dates back to 1994.
He has served in the executive council of portfolios for education, roads and transport, agriculture and land administration as well as housing.

A supporter of former President Jacob Zuma, Mabuza actively participated in the former stateman's presidential campaign in 2007, earning himself a spot in the party's National Executive Committee.
His tenure as an Member of Parliament spanned from 2001 until 2004.
Mabuza holds a teaching certificate and a Bachelor of Arts degree earned at Mngwenya College of Education and UNISA, respectively.
