GDP contracts slightly in third quarter

South Africa's economy contracted slightly after two consecutive quarters of growth.

Gross Domestic Product fell by 0.2% in the third quarter.
Stats SA's Bokang Vumbukani-Lepolesa says, that between July and September, growth was dragged down by the agriculture, manufacturing, and construction industries.

She says the bird flu outbreak and the floods in the Western Cape drove the agricultural and manufacturing decline.
"Agriculture decline by 9.6% driven mainly by field crops, animal products and Horticultural products.
"Manufacturing production decreased by 1.3% with food and beverages and petroleum and chemicals are more significant negative contributors."
