Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
Police are appealing for patience as they continue with their investigations into the murder of a Phoenix man in a parking lot of the Gateway Theatre of Shopping earlier this week.
30-year-old Kalvin Periasamy was gunned down by unknown suspects while leaving the gym on Thursday morning. He sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was found lying next to his vehicle.
Police say Periasamy was shot after having just paid for his parking ticket. Officers have not yet communicated a possible motive behind the attack.
Periasamy is the owner of a tow-trucking company.
In a statement issued to Newswatch - Gateway management says they are assisting police with their work. Meanwhile, Periasamy and five other people were arrested in January last year after allegedly being found in possession of drugs with a street value of R70 0000 as well as nearly R100 000 in cash.
Police said at the time that they were believed to be part of the Bloodz gang in Phoenix - north of Durban
