G20 climate talks to tackle triple planetary crisis
Updated | By Lauren Hendricks
G20 climate talks will kick off next week at Kruger National Park.

The talks will focus on the triple planetary crisis.
"Which refers mainly to interlinked issues that humanity is currently facing, such as climate change, pollution and biodiversity laws," says the Deputy Director-General for Air Quality and Climate Change in the Environment Department, Maesela Kekana.
“So in that regard, this particular working group is dealing with serious matters that are also of a global nature."
Kekana says Mpumalanga province is a fitting venue as it bears the brunt of the energy transition.

" From a high-carbon, intensive economy to a low-carbon one, with a number of coal-fired power stations being located in Mpumalanga itself.
"So it is quite symbolic to have this meeting in Mpumalanga and in particular because one of the priority areas that will be dealt with includes the issue of just transition."
Kekana said the G20 legacy project, the Rhino Renaissance Campaign, will be launched during the talks.
" It's quite important because South Africa is faced with this increased issue of poaching, and it's been going on for a number of years, and we need the technology to assist us to fight this issue of poaching, and it is within the G20 where we can get that particular assistance."
