Fuel levy hike takes effect on Wednesday
The Western Cape High Court has dismissed the EFF's challenge to the proposed increase to the fuel levy.
The party argued on Tuesday that only Parliament had the right to increase the fuel levy, and not the Minister of Finance.
Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana announced his budget speech last month that the fuel levy would increase by 16 cents per litre on petrol, and 15 cents a litre on diesel.

The hike in the levies will come into effect on Wednesday 4 June.
The hikes are aimed at recouping R1.3 billion in revenue following the unsuccessful attempts to implement an increase in value-added tax.
Meanwhile, the Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources said fuel prices would come down for June.
Effective from Wednesday, both grades of petrol will decrease by 5 cents a litre, diesel by 36.9 cents per litre and illuminating paraffin at a retail level by 75 cents a litre.
