Fourth suspect arrested in alleged ISIS kidnapping case in KZN

A fourth suspect in the kidnapping case of an elderly couple in northern KwaZulu-Natal has appeared in the Verulam Magistrate's Court this afternoon.

Officials say the man was arrested in Durban last night.

Botanists, Rodney and Rachel Saunders went missing last month while apparently collecting seeds near Bivane dam in Vryheid.

They have still not been found.

Sayfydeen Aslam del Vecchio and Fatima Patel, who have apparent links to ISIS,  were the first to be arrested last month in connection with disappearance of the Saunders.

The arrest of 19-year-old Themba Xulu soon followed. Xulu was denied bail yesterday.

Spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority Luvuyo Mfaku says the fourth suspect, a Malawian national, is facing a murder charge.

"We can confirm that a fourth suspect has appeared in court today. The matter has been postponed until Monday for a legal aid attorney," he said.

The suspect was remanded back into custody until then.
