Four South Africans stranded in Afghanistan: Dirco

International Relations and Cooperation Minister Naledi Pandor has confirmed that four South Africans remain stranded in Afghanistan.

Pandor was replying to IFP MP Mkhuleko Hlengwa on how many South Africans are still stuck in troubled country.


Hlengwa had asked on whether there are any South Africans stuck in Afghanistan and if there are any immediate plans to withdraw SA nationals from Afghanistan.


Pandor replied and confirmed that there are still some South Africans stuck in Afghanistan.


“There are thirty-four South Africans present in Afghanistan according to the reports from the South African High Commission in Pakistan. 


"Thirty South Africans managed to leave Kabul on evacuation flights arranged by the relevant employers who utilised the United States of America and the United Kingdom evacuation flights.


"The remaining four South African citizens await evacuation arrangements by the employers.”


Last month Afghanistan government was overthrown by the Taliban, following announcement by the United States that it will be pulling out its military troops from Afghanistan after two decades.
