Four Mashatile VIP protectors suspended
Updated | By Sandile Bhengu
The VIP Protection Unit members who were seen assaulting motorists in Johannesburg have been suspended.
The four are attached to Deputy President Paul Mashatile.
They were served with letters of suspension shortly after footage emerged of armed officers dragging and repeatedly kicking three people on the N1.
Police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe says the officers will be allowed to defend themselves before a final decision is made.

"Four members have been served with notices of the employer's intention to suspend. They must provide representations why they should not be suspended under the circumstances. Their representation will be considered, and the outcome will be communicated to them.
"As management, we are saying that we do not condone such behaviour regardless of the circumstances, and we are saying no amount of provocation can lead to such behaviour, and we are moving with speed to address this unacceptable behaviour."
