Four killed in R61 crash near Shelly Beach

There is an investigation into the cause of an accident that claimed the lives of four people on the south coast.

Two cars collided with a bakkie on the R61 near Shelley Beach on Tuesday.
KwaZulu Private Ambulance Service spokesperson Craig Botha says the road had to be shut while a medical chopper airlifted some of the injured to hospital.
"The incident involved a bakkie towing a trailer laden with potatoes and two other vehicles. The collision resulted in three fatalities, two critical injuries, and two serious injuries.

"KwaZulu Private Ambulance Service paramedics provided immediate on-scene medical care. Due to the severity of some injuries, an aeromedical helicopter was deployed, requiring temporary closure of the road.
"An investigation into the cause of the accident is currently underway by the relevant authorities."
