Police say four people have been killed in a shooting this afternoon in Isipingo, south of Durban.
KZN police spokesperson, Captain Nqobile Gwala says a group of gunmen randomly opened fire on residents at an informal settlement near Nogin Road.
"This afternoon at 16h15, nine people were shot by three unknown suspects at Nogin Road. Four people died at the scene, while five sustained gunshot wounds. The motive for the shooting is still unknown at this stage. The suspect fled the scene on foot," Gwala said.
Netcare 911's Chris Botha says they responded to the shooting incident and found several casualties in the scene.
Botha, who was on the scene, says when they arrived, they found that three of the victims had already died.
"Five people were in a serious condition and one in a critical condition. They were transported to various hospitals for the care that they require. The SAPS was still searching the area to see if more people were shot," he said.
Police say cases of murder and attempted murder will be opened.
