Updated | By Celumusa Zulu
A former senior official at the Msunduzi Municipality has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for bribery and corruption.

Nhlakanipho Dlamini worked as a fleet supervisor within the municipality.
He was found guilty of demanding a R100,000 payment from a service provider.
Dlamini demanded the cash with a promise to process a R1.5 million payment that was owed by the municipality.
KZN Hawks spokesperson, Simphiwe Mhlongo, says Dlamini then demanded more money from the service provider.

"Dlamini only processed a payment of R1 million and continued to demand cash in order to process the residue amount. A case of corruption was reported to the Hawks members from Durban Serious Corruption Investigation.
"An intensive investigation was conducted, and an undercover operation followed. On 17 January 2020, Dlamini was caught red-handed after collecting cash from the complainant. He was placed under arrest and charged with corruption."
