Former KZN Hawks boss ready for case against ex-employer

Johan Booysen says he's ready to have his day in court.

His R7 million lawsuit against the State is now just months away.

Charges were withdrawn against the former KZN Hawks head and members of the Cato Manor Organised Crime Unit six years ago.

They were arrested on charges of racketeering, murder, assault, and theft in 2012, and were accused of being involved in a so-called 'hit squad'.

Booysen has long claimed he was targeted because he'd opened investigations into politically connected figures.

" I think we’re more than prepared; the state's got no leg to stand on. There was no evidence to remotely link us to the commission of any offences.

"Now I'm looking forward to my day in court so that these rogue prosecutors and the police investigators at the time can be exposed, and we have all subsequently instituted civil action against the prosecuting authority."

When the charges were dropped, the NPA said, at the time, that it had launched an internal investigation into how the case against Booysen and others had been authorised.
