Focusing on townships will boost local economy: Ramaphosa
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
Ramaphosa had been speaking at an event reflecting on local governance at the University of KwaZulu Natal's Westville campus last night.
He says the current economic situation has seen many factories and businesses retrench employees.
Ramaphosa says it's time for people to focus on townships.
"This is the residence of stokvels. This is the residence of class and of a burial society. This is where money changes hands," he said.
Meanwhile, KZN MEC for Human Settlements Ravi Pillay said he is challenging professionals and experts to ask critical questions that will help improve local governance.
Pillay who was also present at the university says it is only when introspection takes place that local governance will work effectively.
"We always appreciate your input on various matters, be it matters of economic transformation, our BEE model, our challenges in governments etc. We do believe that you are critical stakeholders in our decision-making process," he said.
