Fisherman saves boy (9) from near-drowning at KZN beach
Updated | By Lauren Hendricks
A young boy is lucky to be alive after a fisherman spotted him floating face down in the ocean and rushed to pull him out.

It’s believed the nine-year-old was with other children at Baggies Beach in Amanzimtoti on Wednesday afternoon.
Cameron Alexander says he was fishing along the shoreline when he noticed something floating in the water.

"I looked twice because I was like, 'Hang on, that's a body'. I realised at that moment, everything sort of freezes around you. I just threw my rod, and I didn't even think about it. It was more of muscle memory than anything else, and the main priority was to get him out of the water.
"I picked him up and walked out of the water, and immediately I put him on his side. So I didn't want to do any chest compressions or anything, being such a small little boy. I started tapping him on his back to get the water out."

Lifeguards and medics quickly attended to the child before he was rushed to the hospital.
Lifesaving SA says the incident happened at an unprotected beach and without any adult supervision.
