First in SA Lymphatic, Venous Disease society launched
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
In a first for South Africa a society dedicated to Lymphatic and Venous Disease has been launched.

The disease affects 60% of people with leg ulcers. The society aims to conduct critical research and investigate the causes and effects of the diseases.
KZN vascular surgeon and founding member of SALVS Dr Vinesh Padayachy says it has not been well researched over the years and little to no data is available
"Because most patients of Lymphatic and Venous Disease won't end up dying from it the problem is then made to take a backseat", he said.
"However these patients often suffer for many years from pain in their legs including swelling of the leg, alteration of the leg and multiple infections on the leg. It is a significant problem", Dr Padayachy said.
The society will be participating in the upcoming International Vein Week campaign by hosting a series of educational events from the 5th to the 11th of April.
